Powell River, B.C., Canada
Is a 38 ft. diesel powered, 8 knot heavily laid up fiberglass displacement hull vessel built in 1980 to an Edwin Monk design as a west coast troller. Converted to a personal west coast exploration vehicle and day tour dive charter vessel in 2008-2009. GRADIENT operates on the North Sunshine Coast from her home port of Powell River. She moves between being based out of Powell River, Lund, Saltery Bay, Okeover Inlet and sometimes Pender Harbour. Captains Island Cloud Sponges

I had a great day diving a wonderfully variated sponge wall at Captains island yesterday.
Over the years we've put in at least 8 different dives spots around the island this is the first time ive seen great sponges. they started around 80 ft and looked to continue well past 150.
Thanks Kal!
One  can see that theres trap or cannonball damage to some of them which is unfortunate.
A great day with Wayne and Rana. Will be back here next week for more exploration.

save a dive spot

We got a flat on the way diving today . A short jump at the mermaid was all time allowed after we were sorted out.
Not to harp on about this but the chain on the float is about to fail and needs replacing and her zinc should be changed. it would be great if the Parks Branch, some club members, the anniversary organizers or a combined group  would see to this before her party.
Water was fairly clear with some Krill, Vis at 70+ ft. water temp 46F
 Anyways heres what we saw.

fish hotel deco

Change of plans yesterday due to wind warnings and compressed time frame  saw Wayne, Andi, Rob D. Bruce and I go to fish hotel for a splash. Rana the deckhand divemaster dog watched us from shore rather than from the deck of the Gradient.Vis was good at plus 60 ft . lots of life . water temp 46F.
Wayne and i took it easy with a 65 min dive based deepest /longest of 160 ft for 30 for our first deco dive in awhile. I took camera along continuing the integration of the camera with the rEvo.
ill soon have to add the dome port but am sticking with the macro for now as its a bit smaller, less fragile scratch and bump wise with bail outs and im having a lot of fun with it.
heres what i saw!

Heres a bit of what i saw yesterday while on an 80 min dive at Captains island.
It was a beautiful day topside although around minus 8C , water temp 46f.vis excellent at 80+ feet.
